Excellent English Westminster chiming Art Deco Mantel clock by Enfield Clock Company (London) Ltd, one of England's finest early 20th Century clockmakers. The clock is in excellent overall condition and was serviced in Jan 2021, so in fine working order.
The clocks wonderfully proportioned Walnut case (numbered “119”), has simple clean lines with rich graining and a black painted rear door as per original spec. and running along the front base of the clock is an attractive strip of moulded wood effect Bakelite.
A rectangular chrome chapter ring with black Roman numerals, is fixed directly onto the case, finished with a pair of original chrome Skeleton type Deco hands secured with a pinned collet. The dial is then protected by a glazed cover, mounted in a chrome bezel, all of which being completely on-message with its period provenance and heritage.
The clock has the superbly engineered Enfield K3 8-Day Westminster Chime mechanism introduced in 1934, a high-quality movement with 5 x under-slung hammers chiming on their brass rods, whilst stamped into the clocks polished snailed finished backplate (only is the movement Patent number “421,434" and the extremely rare Enfield “TN” trademark. (Interestingly, snailed finish mechanism plates were only used on the ‘Premium Range’ of Enfield’s chiming clocks). The clock chimes the quarters and hours, with the chime / silent adjustment leaver on the dial and comes with its original polished brass pendulum bob and Enfield winding key.
