Additional Information

Period: Circa 1860’s
Material: Spelter
Origin: French

A fabulously intricate French Spelter striking figurine mantel clock, protected by an original glass dome, from world renown and prestige clockmaker Japy Frères of Paris.

The case is embellished with detailed hand-crafted Spelter work, featuring a courting couple writing and reading love letters. Clean white open-faced porcelain dial with black Roman numerals and a pair of black Roman style hands, surrounded by a cast brass bezel.

The clock has a lovely high-quality engineered 8-day French drum-head pendulum driven movement with serial number “1193”, along with the Japy Frères et Cie 'Grande Medaille d’Honneur' 1855 trademark stamped into the circular brass backplate, helping to date the clock. The clock strikes its nickel 'ting-bell' on the hours and half hours.
